OAKLAND -- A 38-year-old motorcyclist was killed after running into the back of a big rig Thursday evening on northbound Interstate-880, authorities said.
The name of the motorcyclist was not released late Thursday.
Witnesses told officers from the California Highway Patrol that the motorcyclist was speeding on his 2006 Harley-Davidson and lost control, colliding with the rear of the big rig south of the Broadway exit about 5:37 p.m.
The motorcyclist, who is from Oakland, was thrown from the bike and was lodged between the rig's rear tires and the frame of the trailer. The rider was dragged with the rig several yards before the 49-year-old big rig driver could stop. The truck driver cooperated with the CHP and was not arrested.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.
The CHP continues to investigate the fatality and anyone with information should call 800-835-5247 or 510-450-3821.
