OAKLAND -- A 38-year-old motorcyclist killed Thursday evening after crashing into the back of a big rig on Interstate 880 was identified Friday by the Alameda County coroner's office as Troy Janssen of Oakland.
Janssen suffered fatal injuries after his 2006 Harley Davidson ran into the back of the big rig on northbound 880 south of the Broadway exit in Oakland about 5:37 p.m. Thursday. He died at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol said witnesses told investigators the motorcycle was speeding and lost control before hitting the truck. The truck driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the CHP.
The death remains under investigation. Anyone with information may call the CHP at 800-835-5247 or 510-450-3821.
