Cher said no to Russia.

Right -- the whole country. Just like that.

The singer/actress/fabulous dresser says she turned down an opportunity to be part of the upcoming Sochi Olympic Games, after the country's recent much-publicized crackdown on public homosexuality.

Cher said a friend of hers, "who is a big oligarch over there," called and asked her to be a good will ambassador to the Olympic Games. "I immediately said no," said the gay icon and mother of transgender Chaz Bono. "I want to know why all of this gay hate just exploded over there. He said the Russian people don't feel the way the government does."

It wasn't clear what the Russian "oligarch" person wanted Cher to do, but she's not going to do it. And the Sochi Games will obviously be that less fantastic because of it.
