BERKELEY -- A man was beaten and robbed after Saturday's football game between Cal and Ohio State, police said.
The 25-year-old man was at Piedmont Avenue and Bancroft Way, near Greek row at the University of California, Berkeley, when four men approached him around 11 p.m., said Berkeley Officer Jennifer Coats.
The men knocked him to the ground and punched and kicked him repeatedly, leaving him with significant injuries, Coats said.
A university police officer detained two men matching the description of the suspects, but witnesses were not able to identify them. One man was released and the other was arrested on an outstanding warrant, police said.
Police are investigating the attack as a robbery but need to interview the victim, who was hospitalized at a trauma center, to determine what was stolen. The victim reported items missing from his wallet.
In addition, two assaults sparked by people trying to crash parties were reported in the area over the busy weekend, according to police. A sellout crowd of 62,467 attended Saturday's game.
