OAKLAND -- Two men in a car linked to burglaries and robberies were arrested Wednesday morning after the vehicle crashed in East Oakland while being chased by police, authorities said.

The men fled the car but were arrested moments later hiding in nearby yards.

The incident began about 8:54 a.m. when officers spotted the car in the area of Edgewater Drive and Hegenberger Road and began pursuing it.

The suspects crashed the car at 98th Avenue and Lyndhurst Street a few minutes later and the suspects fled on foot.

Several streets in the area, including parts of 98th Avenue, were shut down while police searched for the suspects.

They were both found by 9:14 a.m. hiding in yards, one on Nevada Street and the other on Tyler Street. Police planned to have the pair interviewed by investigators.

The streets were reopened by noon.
