OAKLAND -- An Amtrak train collided with a station wagon Wednesday morning in the Fruitvale district but no injuries were reported, authorities said.
The collision happened about 11:20 a.m. on railroad tracks near East Ninth Street and 37th Avenue.
Authorities said a man and woman inside an Acura station wagon driving southbound on their way to a nearby home supply store and were on the tracks when the car's front end was hit by the train. They were not injured and were able to get out of the car on their own.
The train, Capitol Corridor No. 533, headed to San Jose from Sacramento, stopped a short distance away. None of the 85 passengers on board or crew members were hurt.
The passengers were held on the train until about 12:30 p.m. when they were transferred to another train to continue their trip.
It was not immediately known what caused the vehicle to be on the tracks.
Police shut down 37th Avenue to conduct an investigation.
