OAKLAND -- A 75-year-old Oakland man was killed Monday night when his car was broadsided by an SUV occupied by two 17-year-old boys fleeing the scene of a shooting, police said.
Authorities identified the man as Robert Wollo, of Oakland. The teens, who were not identified, were in a red Ford Explorer when they shot at a house in the 1100 block of 82nd Avenue about 10 p.m. Monday, according to police.
The house was not hit, but a parked vehicle was struck by gunfire. No one was injured in the shooting.
The teens then drove away in the SUV, which was spotted by police a short distance away. Before officers could begin chasing it, however, the SUV headed northbound on Church Street, ran a red light and broadsided Wollo's Subaru station wagon, which was going westbound on Bancroft Avenue.
The teens tried to run away but were captured by police. Wollo was pronounced dead at the scene.
The gun used in the shooting was not recovered. Police were interviewing the youths on Tuesday morning.
