PIEDMONT -- The cause of a fire that heavily damaged one house and scorched two others Tuesday afternoon had not been determined as of Wednesday morning, officials said.

Fire crews remained at the scene overnight on Maxwelton Road and extinguished some vegetation hot spots about 3 a.m. Wednesday, said Piedmont Fire Chief Warren McLaren.

The fire erupted at 2:25 p.m. and caused at least $380,000 in damage to the multistory house at 150 Maxwelton McLaren said.

An adjacent house had exterior and window damage, while another had skylight and kitchen damage, officials said.

Piedmont firefighters called for mutual aid from Oakland and dozens of firefighters from the two cities had the fire under control within an hour. There were no reported injuries.
