OAKLAND -- A 73-year-old woman died Wednesday morning after being hit a truck while crossing a street in Chinatown, police said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was hit about 8:40 a.m. by a Toyota pickup at the intersection of Ninth and Alice streets.

The driver, a 44-year-old San Lorenzo man, stopped and remained at the scene. He was questioned and released, pending further investigation. He told officers he was blinded by the sun and didn't see the woman, police said.

Police said the woman was in a crosswalk, headed southbound on Alice Street. The driver was going eastbound on Ninth Street, police said.

Firefighters from nearby Fire Station 12 treated the woman, and she was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where died at 11:23 a.m.
