ALAMEDA COUNTY -- A car caravan will travel a portion of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail on Saturday.
The caravan will start at 11:15 a.m. with a tour of the adobe at Rancho Higuera Historical Park, 47300 Rancho Higuera Road, Fremont.
From there, it will go to the Niles Staging Area near Mission Boulevard and Niles Canyon Road in Fremont. At 12:30 p.m., an East Bay Regional Park District naturalist will talk about the native landscape at the time of the 1775-76 Anza Expedition. Picnic lunches are welcome.
A National Park Service ranger will lead a kids' activity at 11:45 p.m. at De Anza Park at Foothill Boulevard and City Center Drive in Hayward, where it is believed the expedition camped. Hayward City Councilman Marvin Peixoto will give a short talk.
The final stop will be at Peralta Hacienda, 2465 34th Ave., Oakland. There will be a tour of the grounds of the first non-native homestead in Alameda County beginning at 2:30 p.m. There is a fee to tour the house.
