SEATTLE -- The A's have lost left fielder Yoenis Cespedes, at least temporarily.

The second-year player from Cuba made his first start since Sept. 13 in the series opener against the Seattle Mariners Friday. He was testing out his right shoulder, which was injured while making a dive on defense earlier in the month.

But after a strikeout and a grounder to second base in his first two at-bats, Cespedes was lifted from the game after the A's batted in the fourth.

The word from the dugout was that Cespedes was having more right shoulder soreness. Seth Smith took over in left.

If Cespedes' shoulder soreness continues, he might be relegated to the DH position for the first round of the playoffs.
