SAN JOSE -- A man who was killed while reportedly running on Interstate 280 near downtown San Jose over the weekend has been identified as a Long Beach resident, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office.
Gene Shannonhouse, 32, died late Friday night when he was hit by a car in the southbound lanes south of Bird Avenue, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers were called to the site about 11:05 p.m. and found the victim and a car on the right-hand shoulder. He died at the scene.
The driver and passenger in the car, both San Jose residents, stopped after the collision and cooperated with investigators.
Why the man was on the freeway remains under investigation. The CHP said no vehicle associated with him was found in the vicinity.
