ALAMEDA -- Target will open in the city's expansive new waterfront development, Alameda Landing, on Oct. 9.
The big-box retailer, which has multiplied store locations across the Bay Area in recent years, will become the anchor tenant at the Island's new retail and residential center, which is located on 77 acres near the Oakland-Alameda Estuary. Safeway will also join the center.
The new Target, which broke ground in July 2012, is about 140,000 square feet and will employ about 200 workers.
The Minnesota-based retailer is also opening a second CityTarget store -- a smaller design for urban centers -- in San Francisco this month at Geary Boulevard and Masonic Avenue.
