FREMONT -- The Fremont Fire Department is seeking volunteers to install smoke detectors in the homes of the elderly, disabled and low-income families.
Volunteers would be asked to spend 8-to-10 hours per week on the program, and to replace smoke detectors' batteries in homes each six months, upon residents' requests.
Volunteers must have the ability to safely climb a ladder and use a cordless drill, fire officials said. The smoke detectors will be installed between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
To participate, contact Fremont Deputy Fire Marshal Amiel Thurston at 510-494-4213 or email@example.com.
