SAN LEANDRO -- A passenger in a car was injured in a road-rage shooting Wednesday night on Interstate 880 in San Leandro, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The shooting took place at 9:45 p.m. on I-880 north near Marina Boulevard, said Officer Tim Moore. The victim, a female passenger in a black Honda Accord, dialed 911 at 9:48 p.m. and told a dispatcher that someone in a white pickup truck fired a single shot into the car. She was hit once in the right leg.
The driver of the Honda was not hit by the gunfire and drove to Richmond, where she stopped in the parking lot of an Orchard Supply hardware store near Potrero Avenue and Interstate 80.
"The female passenger said they fled the scene for their safety, and that she called her mother and then dialed 911," Moore said.
The victim was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
No further description of the truck or the suspect was available and a motive for the shooting was not immediately known, Moore said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the CHP at 1-800-TELL-CHP (1-800-835-5247).
