Big Lots, the closeout retail chain that sells everything from office furniture to Halloween costumes, has finished remodeling 12 Bay Area stores in advance of the holiday shopping season.

The newly refurbished stores, which span from Antioch to San Francisco, Hayward, Redwood City and San Jose, have new flooring and ceilings, updated fixtures and lighting, new bathrooms and improvements to the exterior of the buildings. Stores were reorganized to clear the aisles and make navigating departments easier. The big-box stores sell a massive range of rotating products for up to 70 percent below traditional retailer prices.

The remodeled locations will host celebrations and sales that begin Oct. 18 and go through Oct. 21.
