HAYWARD -- A Hayward woman was in custody Thursday morning after police say she hit and critically injured a motorcyclist with her car.
Katharyn Anderson, 30, was arrested on suspicion of DUI following the Wednesday night crash in Hayward, said Sgt. Mark Ormsby.
Officers were dispatched at 9:07 p.m. to the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Berry Avenue for a report of a major injury crash involving a car and a motorcycle, Ormsby said.
Police said a red, early-1990s model Chevrolet sedan was traveling west on Berry Avenue when it ran a red light and struck a motorcycle driving north on Mission Boulevard.
The motorcyclist, a 23-year-old Castro Valley man, suffered severe head trauma and a broken leg, Ormsby said. He was transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries but was expected to live, police said.
Anderson was arrested at the scene and booked into the Hayward jail. It was not immediately known if she was injured in the crash.
