Emeryville -- The police department will be hosting a Drug Take-Back Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 2449 Powell St.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, administered by the Drug Enforcement Administration, gives the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by discarding potentially dangerous expired, used or unwanted prescription drugs.
Americans participating in the DEA's six previous Drug Take-Back Days have turned in nearly 2.8 million pounds -- almost 1,409 tons -- of prescription drugs at more than 5,800 sites operated by over 4,300 of the agency's law enforcement partners.
The service is free and anonymous. To find other collection sites, go to www.dea.gov or call 1-800-882-9539.
