SAN JOSE -- A 27-year-old woman was arrested Monday morning for allegedly driving into a female acquaintance in a residential neighborhood, killing her.
Police say the collision happened at 2:33 a.m. in the 1200 block of Weibel Way, located near Leigh and Hamilton avenues. The driver, identified as 27 year old Campbell resident Monica Johnson, was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for vehicular manslaughter and felony drunk driving. She allegedly backed an SUV into a 26-year-old woman, denting a garage door in the process.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office identified the victim as Los Angeles resident Cassandra Rose Buck.
It is San Jose's 34th traffic fatality of the year, and the 21st involving a pedestrian.
Police believe the driver and victim knew each other, and at one point in the evening both women were in the same sport-utility vehicle. There were beer cans near the scene of the crash.
