OAKLAND -- A 15-year-old carjacking and assault suspect who fled police at Children's Hospital in Oakland on Monday morning was found hiding under a car a short time later several blocks from the hospital, authorities said.
Police said the boy had carjacked a motorist in the area of the 1500 block of 38th Avenue about 2:30 a.m.
Officers spotted the car and when they tried to stop it, the boy allegedly crashed the vehicle into a patrol car before driving off and finally crashing into a fence.
He was arrested on charges of carjacking and assault on a police officer and taken to Children's Hospital at 747 52nd St. for medical clearance.
He was able to run from officers at the hospital just before 7 a.m. and headed into nearby yards.
Dozens of officers descended on the area, blocking off streets and stopping vehicle traffic.
The boy was found hiding under a car in the 800 block of 47th Street near West Street and was arrested again at 7:13 a.m.
He was taken to police headquarters for processing and was scheduled to be sent to Juvenile Hall in San Leandro.
