OAKLAND -- One person was killed and another was wounded Monday morning within a half-hour span in different parts of East Oakland, police said.
The 17-year-old Oakland resident was shot about 11:30 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of East 16th Street and died about 30 minutes later at a hospital, police said. His identity has not yet been released.
He was apparently visiting someone at the complex. A nearby preschool, Centro Infantil de la Raza at 2660 E. 16th St., was briefly locked down and police had East 16th blocked off between 26th and 27th avenues while they conducted the investigation.
Shortly before that, a man was shot through the shoulder not far from the San Leandro border, police said.
The shooting happened about 11 a.m. in the 10900 block of Packard Street, which is also close to the Durant Square shopping center. The man was taken to a hospital and was being evaluated.
Police said two men approached the man, and one of them shot him. Both suspects fled in a car on Durant Avenue.
Police don't have motives in either incident, and no arrests have been made.
