The following is the text and email exchange that connected Kristi Ouimet, whose 2-year-old son Matthew received a liver and kidney transplant in June, with Maggie, whose deceased son provided the organs Matthew received.

The message Kristi Ouimet got while cooking dinner Tuesday evening, Oct. 22:

Hi Kristi,

I sent you a Facebook message on Thursday and Facebook said it would go to your "other" inbox. I said I would leave any further contact up to you, but I would just like to know for sure if you received it?

With love,

Maggie

What Kristi Ouimet found in her Facebook inbox:

Kristi,

How do I start? First, by saying I know that God is in control and I have been able to see His hand in this from the start. I will share that story with you someday if you wish. I am attaching the letter I sent to Donor Services which was to be forwarded to the recipients of my son's organs. But it has been weighing on my heart that I needed to contact you directly. I know this is out of the blue, so I will leave it up to you to decide what comes next and when (if at all). I pray for Matthew and your family daily.

With love,

Maggie

What Kristi wrote back to Maggie:

What are you saying, Maggie? Did my son receive your son's organs?

Maggie's reply to Kristi:

Yes, I am. My son was in a car accident, passed away June 2. We were told part of his liver and one kidney went to a two year old at UCSF. It has to be Matthew.

Kristi writes back:

Omg! I prayed for this day! I would love to meet you and your family and introduce you to mine. Wow, words fail me. Thank you is never going to be enough.
