BERKELEY -- East Bay Regional Park police are investigating a body that was found near the waterfront near University Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
According to Berkeley Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Coats, the body was found around 3:15 p.m. just south of University Avenue along West Frontage Road. Berkeley police are assisting East Bay Regional Park police in the recovery of the body, she said.
The body appears to be that of an adult male, and had been in the water for quite some time, an East Bay Regional Park police officer said.
The California Highway Patrol is also helping direct traffic while crews wait for the Alameda County Coroner to respond.
