An 11-year-old boy walking to school Friday morning in East Oakland was robbed at gunpoint of $5, police said.

The robbery happened about 7:20 a.m. in the 2500 block of 19th Avenue. Police said the boy was confronted by a teenager armed with a gun who demanded his phone but took $5 instead, before a resident in the area intervened.

The victim was not physically hurt but was shaken by the incident, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male, about 15 years old, 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a skinny build and blue braces on his teeth. He was wearing a dark-gray hooded sweatshirt, bluejeans and was carrying a black backpack.
