OAKLAND -- A man who backed off robbing an East Oakland bank Thursday morning was arrested Friday when he went back to the same branch, apparently to try and rob it again, police said.

The name of the 30-year-old man, who has addresses in both Vallejo and Oakland, was not released because he had not yet been interviewed by investigators.

Police said the man went to the Bank of America branch at 6900 Bancroft Avenue in the Eastmont Town Center about 11:30 a.m. Thursday and gave the teller a note demanding money. The man, however, became nervous and walked out without getting any money.

The same man returned about 11:15 a.m. Friday and was walking aimlessly around an ATM inside the branch when he was recognized by employees. Police were contacted, and security guards followed the man to another part of the town center, where he was arrested.
