OAKLAND -- Police officers, assisted by a California Highway Patrol helicopter, unsuccessfully searched an East Oakland neighborhood Monday afternoon for a homicide suspect seen fleeing into an apartment complex, authorities said.
Police did not release the name of the suspect or details about the slaying he was being sought for, only to say that it didn't occur on Monday.
The suspect was seen fleeing into an apartment complex in the 9400 block of Peach Street, which is between MacArthur Boulevard and Bancroft Avenue, about 1:35 p.m. Monday.
Nearby streets were closed down as dozens of officers rushed to the area to help in the search. Police dogs and a California Highway Patrol helicopter were also brought in to assist.
The search was halted about 2:40 p.m. when it was apparently determined the suspect had fled the area before police could establish a perimeter.
