SAN JOSE -- A 26-year-old man who was struck by two vehicles and killed early Friday morning while walking across a highway has been identified as Petros Ketema of San Jose.
Ketema was walking on the transition lanes of northbound Interstate 280 to Highway 87 in San Jose around 4:45 a.m. when a 66-year-old man driving a Toyota saw him and veered to the left, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Toyota clipped Ketema, and a Honda that followed also swerved in reaction to the Toyota's movement, but also hit Ketema.
A 1992 Mazda came upon the scene seconds later and crashed into the Honda.
All three drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to the CHP.
Ketema was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office.
