FREMONT -- Fire crews quickly extinguished a one-alarm garage blaze at a home in a hilly Fremont neighborhood on Tuesday morning, a fire captain said.

No one was injured in the fire that broke out about 11 a.m. at a home on Zapotec Drive near Joshua Place, said fire Capt. Daniel Cardenas.

The owner of the home was outside working on his van when he smelled smoke, Cardenas said. When the homeowner went into the home to investigate, he saw flames in the garage so he dialed 911.

No one else was home when the blaze started, fire officials said.

Fire crews responded and had the fire out about 15 minutes later, Cardenas said.

Cardenas said there was "a lot of smoke throughout the home" and that the resident will not be able to live there for the time being.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation on Tuesday.
