OAKLAND -- A motorcyclist killed Sunday morning after colliding with an SUV in North Oakland had run a stop sign and may have been speeding, police said Monday.
Scott Stuker, 33, of San Francisco, was killed in the collision, which happened at the intersection of 51st Street and Manila Avenue.
Traffic Officer Daniel Tirapelli said Stuker was riding a Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Manila when witnesses said he failed to stop for a stop sign at Manila and 51st and hit the front end of a GMC Yukon going westbound on 51st. The impact caused Stuker, who was wearing a helmet, to be ejected onto the roadway from the motorcycle. He died at the scene from his injuries.
Tirapelli said there were indications the motorcycle was speeding when the collision happened.
The 20-year-old driver of the Yukon, a San Leandro resident whose name was not released, stayed at the scene and gave a statement to police. He was not injured. The case remains under investigation but no citations were issued.
Tirapelli said police believe Stuker may have been coming from College Avenue but are not sure what his destination was. Police would like to talk to anyone who has information about the wreck. Anyone with information can call Tirapelli at 510-777-8553.
