OAKLAND -- A 24-year-old Oakland man was shot to death Saturday morning in East Oakland, but his name has not been released pending notification of his family.
Police responding to a Shotspotter report found the man about 6:04 a.m. in the 1200 block of 78th Avenue, a few blocks from the Oakland Coliseum. He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was not immediately known if the victim lived in the area or what he was doing there. Police were trying to determine the motive and had not made any arrests Saturday afternoon.
Unrelated to the killing, police were investigating two separate nonfatal shootings in East Oakland on Friday night.
About 7 p.m. Friday, a 19-year-old pedestrian was wounded in the leg when occupants in two cars exchanged gunfire in the 3100 block of 98th Avenue near Interstate 580. Police said the man was walking on the sidewalk when people in two cars traveling southbound on 98th Avenue began shooting at each other.
No one in the cars was hit, police said, but the wounded man called a friend who drove him to a hospital where he was in stable condition Saturday. His name was not released.
There was no description given of the cars of the suspects involved in the shooting, who are being sought. Police were not sure why they were shooting at each other but have not ruled out the possibility it was gang related.
Later Friday night, a 24-year-old man Oakland man was robbed of his wallet at gunpoint. When the man fought with the robber, the victim was shot in the lower abdomen. The robbery-shooting happened at about 10:52 p.m. on Voltaire Avenue near 106th Avenue. The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was in stable condition. Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money in each nonfatal incident for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
There is a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the killer in the Saturday morning killing, the 82nd homicide of the year.
