OAKLAND -- A man was fatally shot in front of an East Oakland home Sunday evening, police said.

The Oakland resident, who has not been identified, was shot in the head outside the home in the 3100 block of Coolidge Avenue at about 10 p.m., said Lt. Brandon Wehrly.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Several family members, who were overcome with emotion, arrived at the scene before police, authorities said. It is the 84th homicide of the year in Oakland.

The suspect, or suspects, fled in a green car, Wehrly said. No other suspect information was immediately available. No arrests have been made.

On Nov. 22, Melinda Thomas, 59, was found in the 1900 block of 26th Avenue with trauma to her body, and succumbed to her injuries.

The Thomas killing was the 83rd in Oakland this year. The Alameda County Coroner's Office has not officially ruled the death a homicide, though police continue to investigate it as such.
