RICHMOND -- The California Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help with an investigation of a fatal hit-and-run collision on westbound Interstate 80 at Solano Avenue early Friday morning.

Nathaniel Robinson Sr., 32, of Richmond, was walking across the interstate after he hit a median wall with his maroon Buick Park Avenue when he was hit by several cars about 12:25 a.m., according to a spokesman for the CHP.

CHP Officer Daniel Hill said two of the drivers who hit Robinson remained at the scene and gave statements to officers, but at least one car continued on.

Hill said Robinson was attempting to cross three lanes of traffic to the right shoulder when he was stuck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP needs help from the public in identifying the vehicle involved in the collision that did not stop as well as the driver. Witnesses at the scene of the collision were unable to provide a description of the vehicle, but Hill said it will have front-end damage, and may have a cracked or smashed windshield. The vehicle may also have blood on it.

Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP's Oakland area office at 510-450-3821 or the CHP's nonemergency public access number at 1-800-835-5247.
