OAKLAND -- A 52-year-old man was fatally stabbed Saturday night in East Oakland during a possible attempted robbery, police said Sunday.
Zhao Quan Lin, of Oakland, was stabbed at about 6:13 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of East 20th Street.
Officer Nick Calonge said the man lived in another part of Oakland but was in the neighborhood to visit friends.
As he was walking, the man was confronted by a man armed with a knife who possibly intended to rob him, Calonge said. The victim was stabbed multiple times and died at the scene.
The suspect fled on foot and is being sought. Police said they have not determined if anything was taken from the victim.
The killing was Oakland's 85th homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 120 homicides in the city.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer.
