CONCORD -- A Pittsburg man was arrested after crashing a vehicle while leading Contra Costa Sheriff's Office deputies on a two pursuits, one that eventually wound up on the wrong side of the freeway, a Sheriff's Office spokesman said.

Deputies arrested Justin Economou, 35, on suspicion of felony evasion, felony hit-and-run and reckless driving after catching up to him at Arnold Industrial Place and Oliveira Road, where Economou crashed the Honda Civic into a center median, Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

A deputy first spotted the Honda Civic driving recklessly in the area of Willow Pass and Bailey roads at 3:14 p.m. on Monday and tried to pull it over, Lee said. Instead, Economou led a pursuit that the deputy called off after the Honda sped westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 4, Lee said.

While going the wrong way, Economou allegedly caused a multivehicle collision that resulted in minor injuries, Lee said. The second pursuit began after Economou exited the freeway and was spotted on Bailey Road, Lee said. That chase went through Bay Point and parts of Concord, he said.

Economou was taken to County Jail in martinez, where he was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
