OAKLAND -- Two men and a woman waiting with her 6-year-old son in a getaway car were arrested Thursday night after a takeover robbery at an East Oakland beauty salon, police said Friday.

The robbery happened about 7:15 p.m. Thursday at a salon in the 2900 block of Foothill Boulevard. Four adult employees and customers were inside the salon at the time.

Two masked men, one armed with what turned out later to be a paint ball gun, robbed the adults of various items before fleeing, Officer Hector Jimenez said. The two suspects drove off in a 1995 Oldsmobile, where the woman had been waiting for them with her child.

A witness gave police a description of the car and the suspects, and officers stopped the vehicle a short time later in West Oakland with the suspects and child inside. Items taken from the victims and the paint ball gun were recovered.

The two men, ages 39 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of robbery. The 39-year-old woman, who is the girlfriend of the older suspect, was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and the child was placed with relatives. Their names were not released. Jimenez said the woman and her boyfriend admitted their involvement, saying they needed money for food and shelter. Police are trying to determine if they may be involved in similar takeover robberies of businesses.

Early Friday, police arrested an 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman in connection with two strong arm robberies that happened within a few minutes near Lake Merritt. Another man is being sought.

Jimenez said the two male suspects were using the woman's car to commit robberies. About 1 a.m., an 18-year-old man was robbed of his cellphone in the 1200 block of Seventh Avenue and about five minutes later a 39-year-old woman was pushed to the ground and robbed of her phone and other items in the 400 block of Newton Avenue.

The suspects fled in the vehicle and picked up the woman. They were stopped in the car near Seventh and Market streets in West Oakland a few minutes later. One of the men escaped on foot and the other two were arrested and the stolen items recovered. The man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and the woman for possession of stolen property.
