The crash shut down the intersection of Paseo Padre Parkway and Decoto Road for more than six hours.

The fire department SUV had its emergency lights and siren on when it collided with a Toyota Corolla just before 5 p.m. at the intersection, said police Sgt. Mark Dang. A male battalion chief who was driving the SUV and a female who drove the Toyota were treated for their injuries and released, he said. Both were driving alone.

Police reopened the intersection just after 11 p.m.

The SUV was headed to a report of a structure fire on Elizabeth Way in Union City, said Alameda County Fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles, but the incident ended up being a false alarm.
