SANTA CLARA -- Other teams in recent days contacted the 49ers about the prospect of interviewing 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and others from coach Jim Harbaugh's staff, Harbaugh said Monday.
"It's smart on their part," Harbaugh said of teams in need of a head coach to interview 49ers assistants. "Those guys are great coaches. All of them. There's nobody's that's got a better staff, in my humble opinion, than we do here."
Several reports said the Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins are interested in Roman for their head coaching vacancies. The Redskins also are interested in Fangio, according to an ESPN report.
Harbaugh said there's also interest in defensive line coach Jim Tomsula. He declined to say which teams contacted the 49ers. He did say that he expects to lose at least one more coach. Offensive line coach Tim Drevno was hired by Southern Cal last week.
"An amazing staff," Harbaugh said. "You wonder sometimes why it's taken maybe this long. ... When you look at Greg Roman, Vic Fangio, Brad Seely, Jim Tomsula, and others that we have on our staff, they're consistently good year after year. That's special. That's something special. It would be a surprise if somebody is not hired as a head coach."
Roman and Fangio spent the past three seasons with the 49ers. Before that, they coached under Harbaugh at Stanford.
Fangio and Roman won't be available to the media until later this week.
