REDWOOD CITY -- Two Redwood City men were arrested Thursday on suspicion of firing weapons, including an assault rifle, inside a business as a toddler looked on, authorities said.

Pedro Baltazar-Aguilar, 23, and Jorge Conde-Cardona, 34, were booked on charges of child endangerment, negligent discharge of a firearm and possession of stolen property after investigators found they shot two firearms inside their cash-for-gold business, San Mateo County Sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt said. While no one was injured in the incident, authorities discovered the rounds were fired in the presence of one suspect's 3-year-old son.

Officers responded about 6:40 p.m. to the We Buy Gold store at 3301 Middlefield Road in the North Fair Oaks area after a caller reported hearing multiple gunshots fired in the business, Rosenblatt said. While the store was locked when officers arrived, they looked through the window and saw four men and a toddler inside.

According to Rosenblatt, the suspects, who own the business, initially refused to open the door. Once they made their way inside, officers checked for injured persons and found that nobody had been hurt.

A search of the business turned up a series of firearms, including automatic rifles, shotguns and handguns, along with shell casings and stolen computer equipment, Rosenblatt said. Investigators determined that two of the firearms, an AR-15 type assault rifle and a shotgun, were fired negligently in front of the young boy.

Authorities would not say which of the men was the father of the boy, who was released to his mother. The other two men in the store were cleared of any criminal involvement and released.

It was not immediately clear why the men fired the weapons inside of the store, nor if they were shooting at each other, Rosenblatt said.
