An Oakland pimp has been convicted of second-degree murder for killing a 19-year-old San Leandro woman who wanted to leave the life of prostitution and return to her family, an Alameda County prosecutor said.
A jury found 25-year-old Andre Moncrease guilty on Thursday for fatally shooting Tianna Leui on July 12, 2012, in the Starlite Motel in East Oakland. Leui had been working as a prostitute for Moncrease for about six months before he killed her because she wanted out, said deputy district attorney Laura Passaglia.
Defense attorney James Giller argued that Moncrease didn't kill the woman, but if he did, the killing was committed in the heat of passion.
Moncrease faces at least 40 years to life in prison at his sentencing on March 14.
