PLEASANTON -- A restaurant patron suffered a gunshot wound but was expected to survive after a man opened fire inside the dining establishment early Sunday morning, police said.
The patron was taken to Mt. Eden Medical Center via ambulance after the shooting happened at 12:54 a.m. inside the Redcoats British Pub & Restaurant, at 336 St. Mary St., said Pleasanton police Lt. Scott Rohovit.
At 2:30 p.m. Sunday, police arrested Jason Landes-Caballero, 21, of Pleasanton, who was found in possession of methamphetamine, according to Rohovit.
Landes-Caballero was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, negligent discharge of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance, and he was booked into the Santa Rita Jail, according to Rohovit.
Witnesses had told police that a man inside the restaurant was acting strangely and pacing back and forth. A short time later, they heard popping sounds and saw him with a silver handgun shooting into the ceiling of the main bar area from a stairwell at the rear of the restaurant, Rohovit said.
One of the bullets struck a man in the left buttocks, though he didn't know he'd been hit by the gunfire until a friend noticed he was bleeding, Rohovit said. The other bullets struck the ceiling.
By the time police arrived, the suspected gunman had escaped through the south exit of the restaurant, Rohovit said.
Police executed a search warrant of Landes-Caballero's residence and seized evidence related to the crime, Rohovit said.
