OAKLAND -- A 35-year-old West Oakland man was stabbed to death and found lying at the bottom of a staircase Tuesday morning, police said.
The name of the victim has not been released, but police have detained a man believed to be linked to the homicide, said Oakland Police spokesman Officer Frank Bonifacio. Police don't know yet what led to the killing.
"We don't have determination of a motive at this point,'' Bonifacio said.
Following 911 calls, officers found the victim about 11 a.m. at the bottom of a staircase leading to a two-story house in the 600 block of 31st Street, in a neighborhood between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and West Street.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police said he lived at the house where the stabbing happened.
Police blocked off 31st Street to traffic, between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and West Street, to investigate the scene. The killing was the 12th this year in Oakland. Anyone with information should call 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers of Oakland at 510-777-8572.
