HAYWARD -- Police were called to the scene of an officer-involved shooting Tuesday night at an apartment complex in downtown Hayward.

Details of the shooting were unclear as preliminary reports came in, but the victim is a female civilian, police said. It was not immediately known if her injuries were life threatening.

Police were called to the Summerwood Apartment Homes at 21701 Foothill Blvd. at 7:14 p.m. More than two dozen officers as well as firefighters and paramedics were on the scene in minutes.

There are about five dozen apartments in two-story buildings at the gated complex.

The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available Tuesday night. It was also not known if anyone else was injured in the shooting.
