HAYWARD -- A 31-year-old woman suffered major injuries in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night and police are searching for the person who struck her with a car.

Officers were called at 6:13 p.m. to the intersection of Hesperian Boulevard and Tahoe Avenue for a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle, said Sgt. Mark Ormsby.

The woman, police said, was walking in a crosswalk when she was struck by a car traveling south on Hesperian Boulevard.

After the crash, Ormsby said, the car did not stop. The car was described as a black, newer model sporty-looking sedan.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she underwent surgery, Ormsby said. Her condition was not released Thursday.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 510-293-7034.
