OAKLAND -- Police were searching for two men who snatched a woman's purse Wednesday afternoon in an Oakland shopping center parking lot, sped away and collided with another car about a mile away before getting away on foot.

A woman with the two men was arrested on suspicion of robbery after the car they were driving crashed at 40th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way and then came to a stop in front of the MacArthur BART station, police said.

The woman's name, age and city of residence were not released. Police also did not release the names of the men being sought.

At 1:20 p.m. a woman had her purse snatched as she was returning to her car from a store in a strip mall at 51st Street and Broadway, police said. The suspects, two men and a woman, drove away in a Chevy SUV, which was spotted by Oakland police near West MacArthur and Market Street.

The SUV sped away and crashed into another car at 40th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The car's air bags opened and a tire went flat but the suspects continued to drive east in the westbound lanes of MacArthur Boulevard until the BART station, where they got out of the vehicle and ran away.

Anyone with information should call 911.
