SAN FRANCISCO -- A man was killed after he was struck by a MUNI trolley Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Around 2:37 p.m., San Francisco police responded to calls of a pedestrian and MUNI trolley collision at Market and Powell streets.

When officers arrived, they found a male down on the tracks. Police said the man, who has not been identified, was struck by an outbound trolley.

Paramedics pronounced the man deceased at the scene. Police said the fatal collision may have resulted from the man falling off the platform in front of the trolley.

The Powell Street MUNI station is closed while police continue to investigate. MUNI lines have been rerouted in the area.
