Over already?

Yes, the Season 4 finale of "Downton Abbey" came all too quickly Sunday night, which means we'll have to wait until next January to meet up again with the Crawleys and their devoted staff.

At least this time the producers left us on a much more upbeat note. Instead of a horrific auto accident that had us lunging for the tissues, we were blessed with the touching image of Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes walking hand-in-hand toward the sea. Will there finally be some sparks of romance for these two?

The jam-packed episode, which flashed forward eight months, filled us in on what's going on with poor Lady Edith and an adoption plan for her baby, took us to splendorous Buckingham Palace for Cousin Rose MacClare's big debut, and gave us a strange bit of sex-scandal suspense involving a certain letter and the Prince of Wales. (Bates saves the day!).

But wait, there was more. We also had a visit from the Americans -- Martha (Shirley MacLaine) and her jaded son Harold (Paul Giamatti), who found himself falling for Rose's friend Madeline. Tom took Sarah on a nighttime tour of the Abbey (and got some flak for it), and Harold's kindly valet, Ethan, took a shine to Daisy, who turned down his invitation to come across the pond to the states. (Reconsider, Daisy!).

But by the time the episode was over, we STILL didn't know who had won the battle for Lady Mary's heart -- Anthony or Charles. Our suggestion: Cage match.

So what did you think of the Season 4 finale? Was it everything you could hope for? Or did you want to see more key plot lines tied up? Share your thoughts and help us to grade the finale by voting in our poll.
