REDWOOD CITY -- An apparent drunken joyride in a vehicle packed with teens hit a wall over the weekend, injuring five and ending with the DUI arrest of the 17-year-old Redwood City girl believed to have been behind the wheel, police said.

The crash was reported about 1:40 a.m. Sunday at Jefferson Avenue and Ruby Street, where Redwood City officers found the vehicle crashed into a retaining wall, police said. Eight underage teens were inside at the time of the crash.

One of the passengers was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released. Four others were treated at the scene.

After the crash, police found "bottles of alcohol" inside the vehicle and around the crash site. Police said the 17-year-old female driver showed signs of intoxication and failed the field-sobriety tests they conducted on her.

She was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury and booked into juvenile detention. Her name was withheld because she is a minor.
