HAYWARD -- A man was shot multiple times in the city's Upper B Street neighborhood early Friday but was expected to survive, police said.

Officers were called at 1:46 a.m. to the 1700 block of B Street for a report of shots fired but when police responded they found nothing but shell casings in the street, said Sgt. Mark Ormsby.

A short time later, Ormsby said, Eden Medical Center contacted Hayward police and reported that a man came to the hospital and that he was suffering from two gunshot wounds including one to his stomach.

The man's wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, Ormsby said.

As of Friday afternoon, police had not been able to interview the man because he remained hospitalized.

No arrests have been made and no motive has been established for the shooting.
