OAKLAND -- The World Academy school in East Oakland was locked down on Friday afternoon after a female student reported a man inappropriately touched her on campus, police said.

The private school at 1700 28th Ave. was locked down after the 7-year-old girl told school officials that a stranger approached her about 4:10 p.m. and molested her, police said.

The school placed itself on lockdown and immediately notified police. Officers responded and searched school grounds but did not find a suspect.

Police said the man was not a school staff member. He was described as white, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 180-200 pounds with a mustache and black hair. He wore a black T-Shirt, blue jeans and brown Sketcher shoes.

The lock down was lifted about 5:15 p.m.

A woman who answered the phone at the school would not comment about the alleged incident.

Police are offering as much as $2,500 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
