NEWARK -- An armed man robbed a bank customer at gunpoint Sunday morning after the victim withdrew money from a local bank ATM, police said.

The customer was not injured.

Officers were dispatched just before 9 a.m. to the Bank of America branch at 36900 Newark Blvd. for a report of a robbery, said Newark police Cmdr. Mike Carroll.

The customer told police that a man in his 20s, wearing black pants, a black shirt and holding a handgun approached him and demanded the money he had taken out of the machine.

When the gunman learned it was only $100, he forced the customer to withdraw more money from the machine. The gunman was last seen running toward Newark Boulevard.

Anyone with information about the armed robbery is asked to call police at 510-578-4237 or the anonymous tip line at 510-578-4965.
